Your Community Matters – April 2021

Spring is here!  With evidence of new beginnings all around us, the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta is excited to move forward with some new changes and strategies!

We have redirected our goals for 2021 and making strides toward connection!  We are prioritizing to meet our valued fund holders, learning about their why and ensuring we remain connected to their causes.   Fund holders!!  We will be in touch or feel free to reach out to us to schedule our time together!

Pictured above are twins recently born on Laura’s ranch in Bezanson.
Twins in bison are rare and in their 22 years with this herd, these are their first!

On the flip side, we have also began to engage the many agencies we support to learn about their victories and challenges.   We remain amazed by their resiliency and dedication!  Our pandemic response paved the way for us to enter into communities which we had not reached before.  We are continuing to forge relationships with new contacts and strengthening our trust and connection with existing ones.

I feel this balanced approach positions us to be responsive to our region during our recovery period, and it is one of my favorite parts of my role!  Building community starts with conversation!  I look forward to the many great discussions ahead!

Further to that, we have shifted our Student Awards program!  Our online portal (scroll down for more information) is open April 15th – August 23rd.  Our hope is that this timeline allows us more time to connect with students as they make their post-secondary plans, and ensure the awarded funds are in their hands at the beginning of the school year!

We have also engaged our Northwestern Alberta’s 2021 Vital Signs Team to begin structuring the research for our publication set to launch in October 2021.  Our appreciation goes out to our funding partners including City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie, MD of Greenview and United Way Northwest Alberta.  Our Team consists of over a dozen stakeholder groups across these municipalities.  Now more than ever, we see the decision-makers in our region utilizing this as a resource of evidence-based data to lean on as we make decisions and new strategies to build back.  Stay tuned for more updates!

We are pleased to showcase the success of our Annual Report 2020 which is now available here.  More evidence of the spirit of our region to support and uphold each other no matter what!  Check it out and celebrate the victories with us!
