The recipient of the Joseph F. Reder/Hansen Fund student award through the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta, Nikiforuk went to work in a rural hospital upon graduation, before taking six months to travel Australia.
When she returned to Canada, it was to a nursing position on the surgical floor at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie. She recently took a job at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, working on the medical floor.
“The award that I received from the Community Foundation helped me to complete my Bachelor of Science in Nursing,” she says, adding she is looking forward to continuing to advance her career in Edmonton with plans to attain her Masters degree, as well as travel more of the world.
