Ways To Give

Our donors come from every walk of life with just as many reasons for wanting to give. We work alongside each one of our donors, offering flexible and personalized plans that suite your individual needs.

The NAF Giving Guide

Cash/Cheque
/Credit Card/
E-Transfer

This is the simplest type of gift. For donations over $20 you will receive a charitable donation receipt for the year in which the contribution was made. For credit card donations please visit our donate page.

We accept e-transfer, please contact at our office at 780-538-2820 or shelley@nafgives.com

Real Property

Gifts of real property or personal property may be made in various ways, including an outright gift of the property, or the gift of a residual interest in name.

Publicly Traded
Securities

A gift of publicly-traded securities is the transfer of ownership of stocks or bonds to the Northwestern Alberta Foundation. If you own shares that have increased in value, 50 per cent of the capital gains are taxable. However, if you donate these shares in-kind to the Northwestern Alberta Foundation, the entire gain is tax-exempt. This process is simple and impactful!

RRSP/RRIF

Name the Northwestern Alberta Foundation as the beneficiary of your Registered Retirement Savings Plan or Registered Retirement Income Fund and make a significant donation, while saving your Estate from paying probate tax on the proceeds.

Real Estate

A tax receipt is issued for the fair market value, as determined by appraisal, on the date of transfer.
NAF is keen to explore opportunities where real estate gifts may support social needs in the community.

Life Insurance

You can provide a sizeable future gift to the Foundation at an affordable current cost, without reducing what you give to family and friends through your estate.
The Northwestern Alberta Foundation can be named as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy. If you designate the Northwestern Alberta Foundation as the irrevocable beneficiary or owner and beneficiary of your life insurance policy, we will be able to provide you with an official receipt for income tax purposes for the amount of premium you pay each year.

Bequest

Including a charitable bequest in your will is a simple way to make a lasting gift to your community. When you make this gift through a community foundation we establish a fund that becomes your personal legacy of giving. Alternatively, estate gifts can be directed to one of our existing funds supporting a cause that is important to you.

How It Works

We can work with you and your team of Professional Advisors (lawyers, accountants, financial/insurance advisors) to recommend appropriate language for the gift in your will, as well as provide any additional information required to ensure your wishes are met.

For example:

To Give Where The Need is Greatest
To give [ $ / % / the residue] of my Estate to [Northwestern Alberta Foundation], (Charitable Registration Number xxxxxx) to establish a permanent fund known as the . Annual grants shall be made at the discretion of the [community foundation] in accordance with the charitable objectives of the foundation.

To Give To Charitable Causes Close To Your Heart
To give [ $ / % / the residue] of my estate to [Northwestern Alberta Foundation], (Charitable Registration Number xxxxxx) to establish a permanent fund known as the . Annual grants shall be made at the discretion of the [community foundation] taking into consideration my interests in .

Tips for your Will

When including any charity in your will be sure to include the following:

  • Full legal name of the charity;
  • CRA charitable registration number;
  • Any specific direction for use of the gift.

Northwestern Alberta Foundation can help determine the type of fund that’s right for you. There are several choices depending on how much direction you want to provide about the purpose of the fund, and whether you want future family generations to be involved.

Upon your death, the fund will be set up in the name you have chosen for it.

Your gift is invested professionally, and a portion of the total value of the Fund is available each year for distribution to any registered Canadian charity.

Northwestern Alberta Foundation takes care of all of the administrative details for the fund.

You can make your gift through a donation of cash, appreciated securities, RRSP, RIF, TFSA, or other assets.

At the time a gift is contributed, it is eligible for a charitable tax credit for estate tax purposes.

We are very grateful to you for supporting the work of the Northwestern Alberta Foundation. For more information on ways to give, contact our Development Manager Brittany Kelsey at brittany@nafgives.com or (780) 538-2820.
