Valhalla Centre is a small Hamlet in the west County of Grande Prairie. This small community has always had a huge spirit of volunteerism and leadership which has manifested in many community organizations who work together to make great improvements to the community.
In 2008 the local school division decided to close the Valhalla school. The Valhalla community recognized the importance of having a local school and chose to work together to apply to become a Charter school. Charter schools are Alberta Public Schools who are required to follow the Alberta Program of Studies and provide an enhanced focus on something unique and extra to the Alberta Curriculum. The Valhalla School Foundations saw leadership and civic involvement as the most obvious addition that would enhance the Alberta Program of Studies and provide students with the understanding of the importance of being involved in their communities, as well as having the skills to work together as a group to achieve goals that benefit the community.
Alberta Education approved the Valhalla Community School Charter and In September of 2008 the school opened for its first year as a Public Charter School K-6 School. Over the next 3 years it added grade 7-9 and now serves the West County of Grande Prairie as a K-9 school of choice. The Valhalla School Foundation created a scholarship to award to a student who completed grade 9 at VCS, who is pursuing post secondary education and is involved in their community.
The Valhalla Charter School offers a Scholarship through its Community Foundation fund, donate to the fund through https://cfna.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=1006 or apply for the scholarship through our scholarship portal https://www.grantinterface.ca/Home/Logon?urlkey=cfnwascholar.
