The Salvation Army of Grande Prairie could use your help!

In Canada, we’re seeing a growing gap between the rich and poor.  In our own region, the economy is showing signs of being busier – airport travel is creeping upwards, highways are busier – but we are also seeing a tremendous increase in food bank usage, and this usage includes the working poor. Food insecurity – being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food – impacts health and healthcare costs, our ability to learn, our ability to work effectively, and our overall well-being. One in 10 Alberta households experiences food insecurity.

A Toronto study showed that of children who ate breakfast before school, 78% were on track to graduate compared to 61% for children who did not eat breakfast. And food insecurity is not just about having access to food, but access to healthy options.

The Salvation Army could use our help during this holiday season.  Together we can volunteer by ringing bells at various locations around the community, working in their soup kitchen, donating funds or food, and working in their warehouse.  Please call (780) 532-3720 to ask how you and our community can make a difference in someone’s life through The Salvation Army of Grande Prairie.
