Reimagining Community Together – October 2022

The Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal

The Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal (Alberta) was created to mark the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty’s Accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. To celebrate this historic event, the Medal program recognizes outstanding service from Albertans who, like The Queen, have dedicated themselves to family, community, and country. The Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta will be accepting nomination requests and giving them to this program on behalf of our community.

Nominations are due November 10th, 2022.

To be eligible for the Medal program, nominees must meet the following criteria:

– Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Canada;

– Living as of February 6, 2022; and

– Demonstrated contributions to Canada, Alberta, a particular region of Alberta, community, or field.

More information on the program can be found here. To nominate a recipient, visit this form.

Granting Update

With the deadline to apply for funding behind us, we are pleased to have 40 applications for funding from Northwestern Alberta!

What’s our process from here?

Our Granting Committee reviews each application, evaluating the content and learning about the organizations, projects and programming. Granting is not only determined through applications received, it is a year round process that involves connecting with organizations in our region to learn about their needs. From there, we match our available funding to the needs presented through our application process and our conversations within our communities.

Since some of our funds are the donor advised type, we seek input from donors as to where they would like to see their contribution go. We direct the remaining funds according to the parameters set out in the fund type. Some funds dictate the area of support (Regional Funds), and others have a particular field of interest they contribute to (examples: youth, seniors, environment). Lastly, we have a pool of Community Impact funds which allow our Board to direct funds across our region, where it is most needed.

Please watch for further updates and impact stories.

Year End Giving

3 Ideas for Year End Giving

1 – Giving to multiple organizations? Let us do the work! We can facilitate donations to other charities on your behalf! Think of one stop giving… you provide a list, we provide one tax receipt and flow your support out to other charities as you wish!

2 – Give the gift of securities! There are significant tax benefits to you through gifts of securities.

Ways To Give!

3 – Tax receipting! We provide tax receipts for any donation over $20! Year End donations ensure your tax receipt is in your hands for 2022 tax preparation.

The need of your community has grown over the year with the continuous rising cost of living.

Please consider Year End Giving to your community Foundation so we can have a greater impact in the year to come.
