We would like to thank all of our wonderful sponsors, guests, community partners and volunteers who helped make Nourish the North 2016 possible. Without your on-going dedication to the Community Foundation, your community and our region these events can not happen. We are humbled and honored to have again partnered with each of you.
20 years ago a group of caring and dedicated citizens with a vision pledged to start this Community Foundation for the people of Northwestern Alberta. These visionaries saw the need to build an organization focused on solidifying all areas of community, ultimately strengthening the place each of us calls home.
Why? . . . Because Community Matters!
This week we announced our 2016 Vital Signs – Vital Pulse: The Link Between Sports and Belonging
How are Canadians creating a stronger sense of belonging through sport and recreation? How can we as residents use sport to help create a stronger sense of belonging among residents in the Grande Prairie Area? Read part one our four part weekly series of Vital Pulse.
Did you know . . . only 3 in 10 Canadians participate regularly in sport activities, and women – across all ethnicities and levels of education and income – are far less likely to participate in sport than men.
When people have a sense of belonging, they are connected to a community. Those connections bring meaning to their lives, resulting in a community that is healthier – both mentally and physically.
“87% of new citizens say watching their children play sports makes them feel more connected to community. While we experience the benefits of sport most immediately as individuals, it also plays a major role in strengthening communities by bringing people together, building social capital and fostering greater inclusion of excluded groups. Why? Because sport is inherently social. It brings people together both on the field – and in the stands.” Community Foundations of Canada 2016 National Vital Signs Report.
Please feel free to contact me at 780-538-2820 to discuss how you can partner with the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta and how you can impact and inspire others in your community.
Connect people. Build community. For good, and forever.
Warmest Wishes,
