The Grande Prairie Ski Club (operating as Nitehawk) has been providing recreation opportunities in the Peace Region for the past 60 years. In that time, Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park has grown to offer engaging outdoor activities during all four seasons. This spring we suffered a devastating natural disaster on our Hill. On May 19th, 2020 there was a large landslide which has affected our chairlift as well as a couple of our ski runs, located in the Wapiti River Valley. This landslide will go down as one of the largest challenges our non-profit recreation facility has ever faced.
Nitehawk has always been a local escape, a place to feel the wind in your hair or enjoy the calming effects of nature, and to learn & build new skills while connecting with friends & family. We know the importance of outdoor recreation for our physical and mental well being. The love and support we have felt from the community over the past 60 years is always appreciated and reciprocated through Nitehawk’s support of other not-for-profit and charity fundraisers whenever possible.
The future may seem uncertain, however we are committed to continuing to be a hub for outdoor activity & recreation in the Peace Country. Through the establishment of our “Landslide Recovery Fund”, we will be ready for the future of Nitehawk, whatever it might be. There is a team of experts from our community and across Alberta working diligently to develop the best long term solutions for Nitehawk, and we are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support we have already received. The offers of support and gift in kind contributions that have flooded our inboxes have been heartfelt and a huge help.
Nitehawk will be moving forward with multiple fundraisers over the next year, with the proceeds going towards our “Landslide Recovery Fund”. While our fundraising efforts may look different than in the past, we will still need your support.
