McLevin Family Fund and Cardon Homes Fund

A commitment to community has been an integral part of the McLevin’s lives as they raised their family and ran a successful business, Cardon Homes Ltd, for 40 years.  “Grande Prairie has been such a great place to raise a family, live and work in,” says Carol.

With strong roots in the area – Gord’s grandparents homesteaded near Hermit Lake in the early years of Grande Prairie – the McLevins take great pride in having been able to give back to their community in a number of ways, including through the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta.

Members of the Grande Prairie Home Builders Association and past member of the Grande Prairie Rotary Club, both Gord and Carol have spent numerous hours volunteering their time for various events. It’s been through the Community Foundation, however they feel they have made an impact that will continue on long after they are gone.

“We admire the structure and mandate of the Community Foundation,” says Gord. “We have benefitted so much from Grande Prairie through friendships and businesses, and the Foundation is a great way to take part in the generosity of our community and to have the ability to leave a legacy for the future.”

The McLevin Family Fund and the Cardon Homes Fund were established under the umbrella of the Foundation’s Community Impact Fund in which donors rely on the research of the Foundation’s advisory committees to respond to community issues and provide resources to help meet changing needs.

“No matter how things change throughout the years, instead of putting it directly into something the Fund responds to and supports a wide range of charitable projects that change with the needs of our community,” says Carol. “We really like that idea.”

With two children, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren, leaving a legacy that will continue to help others for years to come is integral to Gord and Carol’s view of community and of being part of something greater than themselves.

“There are so many great people in our community who give back so readily,” says Carol. “This is our opportunity to give back.”

Both the McLevin Family Fund and the Cardon Homes Fund are determined to make their mark on our community’s future.  Most recently making an impact to the Friendship Centre soup kitchen, Society for Support to Pregnant and Parenting Teens and the Beaverlodge Christmas hampers and food bank.

You can make a difference in our community – not only for today but forever.
