Northwestern Alberta is home to International Paper’s (NYSE: IP) sole Canadian mill. This region is resilient and continues to thrive no matter what obstacles are presented to it. The people in this region are resourceful, innovative and truly caring for each other. We’ve seen this community pull together to take care of each other in times of need and come together to celebrate successes. We want to continue to support and encourage that in the years to come.
One of the strategic drivers within International Paper is Investing in People. This means International Paper commits to make sustainable investments to protect and improve the lives of their employees and mobilize their people, products and resources to address critical needs in the communities where their people live and work. This is one of the Grande Prairie Mill’s long-term plans which will help support the youth of Northwestern Alberta to make higher education a little more accessible.
“We take great interest in supporting our community. We are proud to be a large employer in the Grande Prairie area, bringing stable employment for the past 50 years. We have a keen interest to ensure education is available to our youth in the community with the hopes that wherever their education takes them, they may return home and continue to build this great region,” stated Jennifer Swan, manager, Human Resources, Grande Prairie Mill.
International Paper has a long history of employing multiple family members and even generations of family members; they currently employ a grandfather and grandson in a unit. Family is a word used often in the mill and providing bright futures to the youth of their family is important at the Grande Prairie Mill.
International Paper knows that a strong community doesn’t thrive with one specific trade, industry or skill. A community is built on diverse strengths and individuals. They believe that if we support all avenues of what will excite and engage our youth, it will only make our community stronger.
Partnering with the Northwestern Alberta Foundation, provides International Paper the assurance that the funds and process will be handled in a responsible and ethical manner that aligns with our values.
