Injuries are preventable and keeping that philosophy topmost in the minds of Peace Country residents is the focus of Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities (GPASC).

Providing a wide range of community and school programs for youth and families is no small task but is achieved through support from organizations such as the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta and its generous donors.

In 2018, grant funding through the Community Foundation and the Prairie Villa Legacy Fund allowed GPASC to reach close to 1,400 youth and adults with specific safety programming.

“Targeted school programs supported by this grant were the Fire Safety Program and the Street Smarts Program,” says Cindy Blinston, acting executive director of GPASC, adding, “A portion of this funding also went toward client services and was directed toward free car seat clinics.”
