The Grande Prairie Lions Club has been supporting the community in a variety of ways for more than 60 years. Recently, the club added another project to its extensive list with the establishment of the Lions Fund for Mental Health with the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta.

Founded in 1957, the Grande Prairie Lions Club is part of the worldwide service organization Lions International and supports the projects and activities of Lions of Alberta Foundation, Lions Foundation of Canada, and Lions Clubs International Foundation.
Lions support drug awareness and self-esteem programs for youth, diabetes education and research, blindness prevention and aids to visually impaired person, and many other programs aimed at serving the needs of the community.
With a strong focus on support to organizations that offer learning opportunities to people, the Grande Prairie Lions are proud to be a major partner in the Lions Learning Centre, which was completed in 2002. The club also provides sponsorship of a number of bursaries and a scholarship through Grande Prairie Regional College.

Lions members come from all walks of life and are united in upholding common values of loyalty, integrity and service to others.
Looking to the future, the club has deemed health and wellness as an appropriate endeavor for use of club resources, and turned to the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta to administer the program.
“Northwestern Alberta has tremendous economic and human potential,” says club president Riley Greentree. “The Grande Prairie Lions Club Fund for Mental Health will play its part in that growth.”
