Experience Fun Experience Fitness was created with the intention to connect youth with the state of the art facilities that we have available in our region, to promote healthy activity, and to encourage belonging. The program allows kids, ages 10-14 to visit the Eastlink Centre to experience a variety of organized activities that they normally would not have had the chance to participate in.
“The response from the community has been huge,” says Tracie Gillis with the Eastlink Centre. “The smiles on the kids faces and to see them returning every day excited about trying something new is our biggest success.”
The five-day spring camp offered youth a chance to try a variety of sports and recreation activities.
“We’ve had about a dozen different activities showcased over the last three years during the camp. Having parents come back to tell us that their child didn’t think they would like a sport to now wanting more information to register is success, keeping kids active in sport is a win,” says Gillis.
“We would not be able to offer this programming without the generous support of the Community Foundation,” says Gillis. “Being able to bring in outside agencies and have the staff being able to accommodate this program is invaluable.”
