Avondale School Green Team

The Avondale School Green Team’s mission is to increase student awareness of environmental issues while teaching students how to be active community members and agents of change in their communities.

The students of the Avondale Green Team, along with the lead teacher Miss Jessie Kay, are doing this immense work through improving the Avondale courtyard to make it a usable green space in the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Included in this project is the building of movable benches and recycled wood planters. Teaching all students about the value of growing food and caring for the environment by purchasing a classroom garden for each class. The Green Team trained students from each class in the care of the gardens.

Since it began granting in 2015, the Aquatera Environment Fund has gone to support many local greenhouse initiatives throughout the Grande Prairie Public School Division, along with supporting the Camp Tamarack Association and Canadian Parks and Wilderness Association of Northern Alberta.

You can make a difference in our community – not only for today but forever. When you make a donation to the Aquatera Environment Fund, we invest that gift into a permanent endowment fund and the original gift is never spent. Earnings from your gift are distributed in our community to support environmental needs in the community including student awards.  Donations can be made online here – https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/43612 or by calling the Community Foundation at (780) 538-2820.
