Andrea was a very caring and tender hearted little girl that grew up on a farm outside of Sexsmith with her parents and three siblings. She loved the family cat and quite frankly any animal on the family farm received much love from Andrea.
Andrea had many adventurous years of 4-H in a Beef club. She went to many camps, and counseled a few. Andrea went to Selections and LCTS for leadership and personal development training. She was a whiz at public speaking making it to districts, regionals and provincials. She was part of the 4-H Alumni, meeting some very good lifelong friends during her 4-H career.
Outside 4-H Andrea attended school in Sexsmith, completing grade school at St, Mary’s, and high school at Sexsmith Secondary. She was very active with basketball, and was treasurer for the students union. She graduated in 1999, and migrated north to Fairview to take the agricultural technician’s course. Upon completion of her Diploma in 2001, Andrea had her sights set on Science degree at the University of Lethbridge.
Andrea graduated from Lethbridge in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in agricultural studies. This degree took her back to Fairview working for BASF The Chemical Company, as a chemical representative.
In March of 2006 Andrea accepted the position of Research Coordinator with the North Peace Applied Research Association in Manning.
You can’t think of Andrea without remembering her amazing smile, and her contagious laugh. She was full of life, and had a great sense of humor. There was something about that tall blonde that could stop everybody in a room, dead in their tracks. She would always greet you with a “hey buddy. She had to be one of the most genuine, caring, and sensitive people you would ever meet.
At the age of 25, Andrea Vavrek was severely injured in a car accident and passed away five days later. By signing her donor card Andrea was able to help as many as 80 people through organ and tissue donation; her legacy continues to live on in the lives of others.
Larry and Connie Vavrek created the Andrea Vavrek Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation to remember Andrea. This is a student award fund to help Sexsmith graduates who are registered in a medical training program.
The 12th annual Andrea Vavrek Bonspiel for H.O.P.E is Nov 23-25th at the Sexsmith Arena. This fun family bonspiel is to raise funds and awareness for the H.O.P.E Program to encourage organ donations.
